Healthcare Case Studies

NASCO
NASCO is a system and service organization that processes BlueCross® and BlueShield® Plan healthcare claims across the U.S.

Recently, NASCO grew rapidly. To ensure that customer service did not suffer, NASCO considered a data warehouse strategy. After determining requirements, NASCO and Collaborative created a vision of a new, Web-based data warehousing platform. The team also developed a detailed roadmap outlining how to achieve NASCO’s short- and long-term data warehousing objectives.

Today, NASCO is equipped for growth. The strategy enables a Web-based, interactive reporting and analysis environment for BlueCross and BlueShield Plans, and a an extract-creation capability.

Moreover, NASCO knows what the organization must do to achieve its reporting objectives. And because the data warehousing vision always kept customers in mind, customer service will benefit. Additionally, the improved reporting and analysis Collablorative enabled allows NASCO to resolve customer requests more quickly, at less cost, and with less intervention from IT.

Large health insurer
Collaborative helped the insurer migrate 75 critical applications to a new technology. The multi-year migration will require 10 “events” to ensure legacy systems link with their new counterparts, and called for a repeatable process to define, design and implement changes.

Collaborative project managers developed an interface roadmap; defined an interface-specific migration strategy for each event; and created a process to analyze the Enterprise Application Architecture. Additionally, the team developed a Master Project Schedule and Plan that included tangible and agreed-upon deliverables, dates and responsibilities. The team also defined and implemented a consistent approach for each project to define requirements, design, develop and implement.

As a result of these program-wide efforts, the interfaces component is positioned to support the multiple migrations. Moreover, the team delivered a process for the first migration, which can be easily repeated for the others. The process allows project teams to drive activities for three scheduled migrations at the same time.
