Collaborative Consulting’s John Williams Contributes to TDWI Data Integration Report
October 20, 2005
WOBURN, Mass. – Collaborative Consulting, a company that specializes in optimizing its clients’ business and technology capabilities, announced today that John Williams, its vice president of technology and the leader of its Data Services Practice, played a key role in the creation of “Data Integration: Using ETL, EAI, and EII Tools to Create an Integrated Enterprise,” a report just published by The Data Warehousing Institute.
Williams was given the opportunity to contribute his considerable expertise as part of Collaborative’s sponsorship of the report. TDWI hosted a Web seminar announcing the findings, which took place Tuesday, Oct. 18, led by Colin White, TDWI’s president of business intelligence research, and featured attendees from organizations around the globe.
“Recently, master data management initiatives have proven to have exceptional business value,” Williams said. “The ability to identify and centrally control critical data that exists throughout the enterprise is becoming more critical than ever for business success. Supply chain optimization, more effective customer programs and vendor management are just a few examples of business imperatives which require better control and understanding of master reference data.”
Unfortunately, Williams said, some organizations lose patience with Master Data Management because these benefits do not occur quickly enough. “This is something a company must be in for the long haul,” he said. “Master Data Management initiatives are very complex, and need to be performed incrementally. When the diligence and patience they require is applied, the results are dramatic.”
Among numerous other important findings, the report shows that tools involved in data integration are evolving quickly, and that dramatic changes can be expected in the near future. The report and Web seminar also focus on:
- The importance of integrating applications from an enterprise-wide perspective
- Advancements in extract, transformation and load (ETL) tools
- The movement of these tools to event-driven architectures
- How enterprise application integration (EAI) vendors both work with, and compete against, ETL providers
- How enterprise information integration (EII) tools might someday eliminate the need for a data warehouse.
