Collaborative Consulting Publishes Master Data Management White Paper
May 11, 2006
WOBURN, Mass. – Collaborative Consulting, a company that specializes in optimizing its clients’ business and technology capabilities, has published a white paper highlighting the benefits of Master Data Management. The paper shows that when the entire enterprise, along with its customers and suppliers, recognize reference data the same way, an organization can improve data quality and consistency, develop more effective applications, and eliminate the mistakes and inefficiency borne of poorly managed data.
The authors are John Williams, the vice president of technology at Collaborative, and the leader of its Data Services Practice, and Matthew Beyer, a senior architect in the Practice. In the paper, they spell out approaches companies can employ to define and recognize master data, a sometimes difficult but critical step in its optimization. They also detail the broad-ranging business value an MDM initiative can provide for an organization.
On the other hand, Beyer and Williams caution against “irrational exuberance,” and note that successful MDM programs require considerable groundwork and oversight. In fact, due diligence may show an organization that an MDM solution has no more promise than an existing in-house application. Finally, the paper explains how the technological and political hurdles inherent in such a large-scale project can and must be overcome.
